Sunrise Hotel — New Employee Guide

Passage

A Welcome to the Sunrise Hotel. This guide covers front-of-house and housekeeping roles, and should be read alongside your contract, which sets out your specific hours and pay. All new staff attend a paid half-day orientation on their first working day, covering fire procedures, the guest complaints process and how to use the booking system; roles that involve handling food additionally require a food hygiene certificate, which the hotel arranges and pays for within your first month. B Uniforms are provided free for front-of-house and housekeeping staff and must be worn for every shift; a second uniform is issued after three months so that one can be washed while the other is worn. Staff are responsible for laundering their own uniform, though a discounted laundry service is available on site for a small weekly charge. Name badges remain hotel property and must be returned if employment ends. C Shift patterns are published two weeks in advance on the staff app. Housekeeping staff generally work fixed morning shifts, while front-of-house staff rotate between morning, afternoon and night shifts on a four-week cycle; night shift work carries a 15% pay supplement. Staff who need a particular shift covered should arrange a swap directly with a colleague of the same role and notify their supervisor at least 24 hours beforehand; supervisor notification, not approval, is all that is required for a same-role swap. D Guests occasionally leave items behind, and any item found must be logged with reception and stored in the lost property cupboard for three months before being donated to charity if unclaimed. Staff must never keep a found item, even a low-value one, or offer to post it to a guest privately; both are treated as gross misconduct, since guests must be able to trust that a report to reception is the only channel that works. E Staff meals are provided free during any shift longer than six hours, taken in the staff canteen rather than guest dining areas. Annual leave requests require two weeks' notice outside of the December to January peak period, when no leave is granted except in emergencies, since this is the hotel's busiest trading period of the year.
