A Riverside Bike Hire operates two hundred docking bikes across forty stations in the city centre, available to anyone with a bank card or the Riverside app; no membership or account is required for casual use, though registering a free account removes the need to enter card details at every docking station. The first thirty minutes of any hire are free; charges apply only for time beyond that. B After the free thirty minutes, hire is charged at £1 for each additional thirty minutes, up to a daily maximum of £15 regardless of how long the bike is kept out. A bike not returned to any docking station within 24 hours is treated as lost, and the full replacement cost of £450 is charged to the card used to unlock it. C Bikes must be returned to a docking station with a working space, not simply left nearby; a bike locked to railings or left on the pavement, even close to a station, continues to accrue charges and may result in the account being suspended. If every space at the nearest station is full, the app shows the next nearest station with availability, and an extra fifteen minutes of free riding time is automatically added to allow for the detour. D Helmets are not provided and are not required by law for adult cyclists in this city, though children under sixteen are legally required to wear one and Riverside strongly recommends all riders do so regardless of age. Each bike is fitted with front and rear lights that switch on automatically in low light, and riders should report any bike with a fault, including non-working lights, using the fault-report button on the dock rather than riding it. E Refunds for technical faults, such as a bike that will not unlock after payment, are processed automatically within three working days once the fault is confirmed by the system; refunds for any other reason must be requested through the app's help section and are reviewed individually, typically within five working days.
