A Oakhurst Community Centre has four rooms available to hire: the Main Hall, seating up to 120 people and suitable for larger events such as weddings or fundraisers; the Garden Room, seating up to 40 and opening directly onto the centre's small garden; and two smaller meeting rooms, each seating up to 12, intended for classes, clubs and committee meetings rather than social events. B Hire rates are lower for local community groups registered with the centre than for private individuals or commercial bookings, and lower still for regular weekly bookings than for one-off events; a group booking the same meeting room every Tuesday morning pays roughly half the rate of a one-off Saturday booking of the same room. Registration as a community group is free and takes about a week to process, so groups planning a regular booking are advised to register well before their first planned session. C A deposit equal to one hire fee is required to confirm any booking of the Main Hall or Garden Room, refunded within five working days after the event provided the room is left clean and undamaged and the booking ended on time; meeting room bookings do not require a deposit. Events using confetti, glitter or open flames of any kind, including candles, are not permitted in any room, since both have caused costly cleaning bills and one small fire in the centre's history. D The centre's small kitchen, adjoining the Main Hall, may be used for basic food preparation and serving but not for cooking, since it is not licensed as a commercial kitchen; caterers bringing hot food must therefore bring it already cooked. Alcohol may be served at private events in the Main Hall or Garden Room only with a temporary event notice, which the hirer must apply for separately through the local council at least ten working days before the event. E Cancellations made more than 28 days before the booking receive a full refund of the hire fee and deposit; cancellations within 28 days forfeit the hire fee but the deposit is still returned in full, since the deposit specifically covers damage risk rather than lost booking income.
