A SafeStore offers self-storage units in four sizes, from a 12-square-foot locker suitable for a few boxes to a 100-square-foot unit that can hold the contents of a three-bedroom house. All units are let on a rolling monthly basis with no fixed-term contract, and rent is charged one month in advance; the first month's rent, plus a refundable £25 deposit, is due before a unit key is issued. B Access hours differ by site. The Elmbridge branch is accessible seven days a week from 6am to 10pm, while the smaller Northgate branch, which has no on-site staff after 4pm, can only be accessed until 8pm and is closed entirely on Sundays. Customers are given a personal access code rather than a physical gate key, and the code is deactivated automatically if an account falls more than 14 days into arrears. C Certain items may not be stored under any circumstances, including flammable liquids, gas canisters, perishable food, and live animals. Storing a prohibited item is treated as a breach of contract and can result in the unit being emptied by SafeStore staff, at the customer's expense, with 48 hours' written notice given beforehand wherever practically possible. D Customers are strongly advised, though not required, to take out contents insurance, since SafeStore's own liability for loss or damage to stored items is limited to £1,000 per unit regardless of the actual value of the contents. A basic insurance package can be added to any account for a small monthly fee, covering up to £10,000 of contents. E To end a rental, 14 days' written notice must be given, and the unit must be left empty and clean; a cleaning charge of £40 is deducted from the deposit if a unit is not left in an acceptable condition. Deposits are refunded within ten working days of the unit being checked and signed off by staff.
