A Welcome to Speedy Parcel Couriers. As a self-employed delivery driver working for Speedy, you are not an employee, and this handbook explains the practical procedures required by your contract rather than employment terms, which do not apply. You use your own vehicle, though it must pass Speedy's own safety check, separate from its MOT, every six months. B Routes are assigned each morning through the driver app, typically forty to sixty parcels, and must be completed by 8pm the same day; a driver who cannot complete their assigned route by this time must contact the depot by 6pm to arrange for the remaining parcels to be redistributed, rather than simply continuing after 8pm or returning them the next day without warning. Routes cannot be swapped directly between drivers without going through the depot first, since insurance cover is tied to the specific driver assigned to each parcel. C A parcel requiring a signature must never be left without one, even if the customer's instructions say otherwise and even if the driver is confident no one is home to sign; in that specific case, the parcel is returned to the depot and a card left at the address, rather than left unsigned for on a doorstep, since a missing signature on a signature-required item is treated as a serious compliance failure during any audit, not a minor paperwork gap. D Parcels marked fragile must be scanned before and after being placed in the vehicle, confirming their position was recorded, and should never be placed underneath a heavier item regardless of how the vehicle is loaded otherwise; a driver found to have ignored fragile handling instructions on a parcel that arrives damaged may be liable for the cost of the item, deducted from future earnings, rather than Speedy absorbing the cost as it does for genuinely accidental damage. E Payment is calculated per parcel delivered successfully, not per hour or per route, and is paid weekly into the driver's account on the following Friday; a parcel returned to the depot for any reason, including a failed signature-required delivery through no fault of the driver, is not paid for that attempt, though it can be paid for on a successful second attempt. Fuel and vehicle costs are the driver's own responsibility and are not reimbursed separately.
